Justin Fields leaves for concussion check and returns to throw TD pass

Justin Fields was forced out of the game due to a concussion after an illegal goal in the third quarter.

On the first play of a scrimmage in the second half, Fields scrambled to his right and then back to his left before throwing incomplete. After releasing the ball, Cowboys defensive end Tyrus Wheat tackled Fields with what used to be called a “de-cleater.”

Fields was hit so hard that his feet left the ground.

Wheat was assessed a 15-yard penalty for roughing the quarterback, and the Red Hat called for Fields to be sent to the sideline medical tent for a concussion evaluation.

Fields missed just two plays, with Kyle Allen handing off the ball first and throwing a 19-yard pass to Pat Freiermuth, which was the team’s longest play of the night. Fields returned to complete five straight passes, with the fifth going to Connor Heyward for a 16-yard touchdown.

The Steelers lead 10-6.
