Record temperature set at Levi’s Stadium for Cardinals-49ers

Heat traveled with the Arizona Cardinals for their Week 5 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Levi’s Stadium set a new heat record on Sunday with a kickoff temperature of 95 degrees.

Not quite the same heat that Arizona State and Kansas endured the day before, but still hot.

Heading into the matchup, the previous high was 88 degrees. That was established during an Oct. 3 loss to the 2021 Seattle Seahawks.

For the Cardinals, who regularly practice in the heat, it’s just another day that ends in y.

“It’s definitely hot for everyone who goes there, but we’re practicing here in the heat, so I’m sure we’ll be fine,” Cardinals center Hjalte Froholdt said Friday.

With the heat wave heading to the Bay Area, the 49ers requested a switch to their all-white uniforms, but this was denied by the NFL. Instead, San Francisco dons its alternative look: red jerseys and white pants.

“We asked on Monday, but we weren’t allowed to do it,” 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters earlier this week. “You had to do it before the season started. To do this, we need to make a conscious decision or commitment before the year that we will wear all white until mid-October and then go back to normal. But usually it’s not that warm.”

The Cardinals, meanwhile, are rocking their all-white look.

“I feel like every time we’re out there, the sun is shining,” quarterback Kyler Murray said Wednesday. “The field seems a little greener. It’s beautiful scenery, so I’m excited to be there.”
