play

Washington Football rode a big fourth quarter to a 27-17 victory over No. 10 Michigan on Saturday night, avenging last season’s national championship loss to the Wolverines.

The Huskies (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) upset the Wolverines (4-2, 2-1) on Saturday night despite leading 14-0, allowing Michigan to score 17 unanswered in the second and third quarters. However, Washington outscored the Wolverines 13-0 in the fourth quarter for its second Big Ten win of the year.

Washington quarterback Will Rogers completed 21 of 32 passes for 271 yards with two touchdowns to an interception, his first of the season. Things looked bleak for the Huskies after Michigan intercepted Rogers early in the fourth quarter in a tie game, but Washington got the ball right back after Wolverines quarterback Jack Tuttle fumbled on a sack.

Tuttle, who came to Michigan in the second quarter as starting quarterback Alex Orji, gave the Wolverines signs of life offensively at times, completing 10 of 18 passes for 98 yards, but he threw an interception and fumble in the fourth quarter, which Washington capitalized. on.

The Huskies bounced back from their 21-18 loss to Rutgers last week and look to continue their momentum as they move forward in Big Ten action.

Here’s the final score, updates and highlights from Washington’s win over Michigan Saturday night:

Huskies ride a big fourth quarter to a 27-17 win over Michigan at home, avenging their loss in last season’s national championship game, albeit in a much different situation.

Washington fans storm the field at Husky Stadium.

Huskies take a 27-17 lead with 1:06 left in the fourth quarter after Grady Gross converts a 32-yard field goal.

That will probably work, as Michigan will need an absolute miracle to get back.

Wow, what a play by defenseman Kamren Fabiculanan, who dives and intercepts Tuttle’s throw. Tuttle’s throw on an out route may have been a little behind the intended receiver, but Fabiculanan made a great play and dove to cut off the pass.

The Huskies take a 24-17 lead thanks to a 1-yard touchdown run by Jonah Coleman. Washington capitalized on the momentum from the fumble recovery with a 27-yard run from Coleman to start the drive, putting it in the red zone.

Michigan will need an answer soon as there is only 6:31 left in the fourth quarter.

Washington regains possession after a fumble, while Tuttle released the ball as he was sacked. Just a huge play for the Huskies after Rogers’ interception, which also earned great field position.

Rogers throws his first interception of the season and gives the ball back to the Wolverines. Rogers and Washington had a nice rhythm on the drive before the turnover.

Michigan linebacker Ernest Hausmann made a great play with the interception, and it came at a perfect time for Michigan.

After a Will Rogers sack from 9 yards back to the 20, Washington can’t get nearly enough on the ensuing play, completing a pass from 9 yards back to the 11-yard line. Washington settles for a 28-yard Grady Gross field goal to tie the score at 17-17, ending what had been a 17-0 Michigan victory.

There is still a lot of football to be played in Washington.

It appears Tuttle’s touchdown will be the only score of the third quarter. Michigan will take a 17-14 lead into the fourth quarter, but Washington will have the best scoring opportunity of the second half, facing the second goal from Michigan’s 11-yard line to start the quarter.

Michigan may have seen its quarterback move forward, as Tuttle leads a touchdown drive out of the break and ends in an 8-yard throw to Colston Loveland.

Michigan is now 3 of 3 on scoring drives since Tuttle entered the game, and the Wolverines have taken a 17-14 lead after trailing 14-0 in the second quarter.

Michigan gets the ball back from the break

The Wolverines get the ball back with a chance for the green light after halftime.

Washington’s field goal was blocked to end the half

Washington moved the ball with ease in the two-minute drill to end the half, driving 64 yards on eight plays in 1:45 of the game clock. However, Rogers overthrows Boston in the end zone for a possible touchdown just before halftime, setting up a field goal attempt.

Huskies can’t catch a break, however, as their 28-yard attempt was blocked by Michigan, leaving the score at 14-10.

Michigan hits a 45-yard field goal

Tuttle hasn’t been electric by any means, but the new quarterback has led back-to-back scoring drives for Michigan. Wolverines narrowed the deficit to 14-10 on Dominic Zvada’s 45-yard field goal.

Tuttle is 3 of 4 passing for 26 yards in his two possessions.

Michigan is cutting its budget deficit

There goes Donovan Edwards. The Wolverines bench starting quarterback Alex Orji for seventh-year senior Jack Tuttle, who leads a touchdown drive on his first possession.

Michigan cuts Washington’s lead to 14-7 after Edwards’ 39-yard touchdown, on a play strikingly similar to a touchdown he scored against the Huskies in the national championship last season.

Washington takes a 14-0 lead

After punting on their next possession, the Huskies choreographed another touchdown drive thanks to a 37-yard trick play for Cameron Davis to get into Michigan’s redzone.

Washington then took a 14-0 lead on Rogers’ 16-yard touchdown throw to Giles Jackson.

Washington strikes first

Huskies take a lead in the first quarter on a methodical 13-play, 83-yard touchdown drive that ends in a 3-yard touchdown pass from Will Rogers to Denzel Boston.

Washington Drive left with 5:16 playing time.

Michigan vs. Washington Predictions

Here’s a prediction for the game, according to Detroit Free Press’ Michigan beat writer Tony Garcia:

Ignoring Michigan is foolish, but winning this game will be a challenge. It’s a 2,000-mile journey into a hostile environment, against a program looking to avenge a loss in the CFP championship game in January. U-Dub moved the ball well in the air and Michigan was sensitive to the pass. If UM doesn’t take the lead soon, the struggles of the past two weeks in the second half indicate a possible collapse. Simply put, it’s hard to win at Husky Stadium, where U-Dub has won 17 straight games.

The choice: Washington 26, UM 20.
