    Vanderbilt fans throw goalpost into Cumberland River after Alabama win

    Vanderbilt football’s shocking victory over Alabama on Saturday, possibly the biggest victory in program history, calls for a major celebration.

    And the Commodores fanbase delivered after beating the Crimson Tide 40-35 in Nashville, first running down the field before taking down the goalpost. Vanderbilt fans then ran with the goalpost out of FirstBank Stadium and all the way to Broadway Street in downtown Nashville before throwing the goalpost into the Cumberland River.

    Vanderbilt fans made memories that will last forever after Saturday’s historic victory, including the three-mile trek from FirstBank Stadium to the Cumberland River.

    Commodores freshman transfer quarterback Diego Pavia completed 16 of 20 passes for 252 yards with two touchdowns in the game, and also rushed for 56 yards on 20 carries. Vanderbilt finished with 42:08 of possession, compared to Alabama’s 17:52. The Commodores also defeated Alabama 418-394 in total offense.

    It took a horde of Vanderbilt fans to reach the goal post outside the stadium, onto Broadway Street and into the river, but the adrenaline of a big win certainly helped with the task.
