(This story has been updated with new information.)

NC State football quarterback Grayson McCall suffered a scary injury during the first quarter of Saturday’s game against Wake Forest.

McCall ran the ball up the middle and was hit by several Demon Deacon defenders, one of whom appeared to make helmet-to-helmet contact with McCall. McCall’s helmet and ball were also knocked off, and Wake Forest recovered the fumble.

McCall was stretched out of bounds but appeared to have full arm movement. He reportedly pointed to the sky as he was taken off the field. McCall was taken to WakeMed Hospital, according to the CW Network broadcast. McCall had missed the last two NC State games due to injury.

After the game, NC State announced that McCall had been released from the hospital and was in good spirits after his scans came back positive.
