No. 3 Montana State will host Northern Colorado in the homecoming game on Saturday

BOZEMAN – No. 3 Montana State returns home Saturday to host winless Northern Colorado.

Despite the Bears’ 0-5 record, the Bobcats are sticking to their “go 1-0 every day” mentality and not overlooking their opponents.

“In Northern Colorado we are facing a team that has struggled at a record level,” Montana State coach Brent Vigen said. “That said, they’ve fought really well at times this year. You know, they’ve taken Abilene Christian, a ranked team, to the brink. It took a last-second field goal for Abilene Christian to win that game. They ‘I’ve played a decent schedule so far and they’ve had flashes.”

“They haven’t won a game in a while, but that doesn’t mean anything,” Montana State receiver Taco Dowler said. “They are a really good team, so we have to start quickly, I think.”

Northern Colorado has played five quarterbacks this season, presenting a challenge for Vigen and company. when planning the matches against who they think they will be at the helm on Saturday.

“I think we feel like there are some guys that are just out,” Vigen said. “So you narrow it down to the guys you think will play and what’s their mode, what’s their style.”

As the team focuses on the bulk of Big Sky Conference play, Montana State will rely on its veteran leadership. As the Cats remain the only undefeated team in the Big Sky, they are prepared for everyone’s best every Saturday.

“This team is just different,” Dowler said. “That’s how we’re going to fight. Obviously it starts with (quarterback) Tommy (Mellott). We’re going to fight. You follow your leaders, and we have about 24, 23 this year. We’ll be fine. It gave us a lot of confidence .”

“When you’re a team at the top of the conference, you can expect the best from everyone,” Vigen said.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium. The game will be broadcast on CBS affiliates in Bozeman, Butte, Great Falls, Billings and Helena. In Missoula and the Flathead Valley it will be on the MTN channel.
