Why Ali chose the saints: The Chiefs enter the week undefeated and atop the AFC, but little about their perfect start has been, well, perfect. They’ve won four games by just 20 total points — a margin the Saints eclipsed in each of their first two games — lost several star playmakers to injury and watched Patrick Mahomes get off to the worst start of his career. The two-time MVP, whose productivity and efficiency after becoming Kansas City’s QB1 quickly led him to become the best NFLs QB1 has developed a nasty turnover habit in recent seasons. His total of 51 giveaways since the start of the 2021 campaign, including at least one in every game this year, ranks third among quarterbacks. Against a New Orleans team that thrives on turning points into points (fifth in 2024), Mahomes will have less room for error than in his first four games. The three-time champion is, of course, more than good enough to overcome his mistakes – and it’s not like this week’s counterpart, Derek Carr, isn’t prone to mental mistakes himself. (He’s actually fourth in career wins behind Mahomes since 2021… with 38 fewer touchdowns.) But at some point this season, the Chiefs are going to lose. And at some point, Mahomes will come up short in a one-score game. And at one point, Dennis Allen ends up on the right side of a nail-biter on the road. Monday night football seems like a great time for all three.
