“For more than half a century, ’60 Minutes’ has invited Democratic and Republican ticket holders to appear on our broadcast as Americans head to the polls,” ’60 Minutes’ said in a statement. “This year, both the Harris and the Trump campaign agreed to sit down with 60 Minutes. It was agreed that both candidates would get equal time during the broadcast. “60 Minutes” will honor its agreement with Harris, with interviews scheduled this week during the campaign.

Trump last sat down in 2020 with 60 Minutes. He walked away during the interview with Lesley Stahl. Trump referred to the incident at a press conference in Milwaukee on Tuesday evening when asked about his decision not to participate in the October 7 “60 Minutes” election special.

“Well, at this point I went to – they came to me and wanted me to do an interview, but first I want to get an apology, because the last time I did an interview with them, if you remember, they challenged me on the computer,” Trump said. “They said the ‘laptop from hell’ was from Russia, and I said it wasn’t from Russia. It was from Hunter, and I never got an apology, so I’m waiting a bit. I’d like to do ’60 minutes.’ I do everything. I mean, I’d do you now, right? And you’re stronger than ’60 Minutes,’ honestly, it got… if you remember Lesley Stahl, we got into a little bit of an argument on camera about that and other things. And you know, they really owed me an apology, I’ll tell you, David Muir What about David Muir, when he said crime was down, and the next day the Justice Department released figures that crime increased by 45%? I would like an apology. That’s why I asked them for an apology.”

The Republican candidate for president emphasized that he felt he was owed an apology from “60 Minutes.”

“Let’s see if they work. I wouldn’t mind doing 60,” Trump continued. “I’ve done ’60 Minutes’ a lot. I’ve done ’60 Minutes’ twice with Mike Wallace, the great Mike Wallace, he was great. His son comes from a different ballpark. His son didn’t… I said, do you want to be just like your father?

In a statement, Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said Trump’s team had not agreed to an interview.

“Fake News,” Cheung said in a post on X. “60 Minutes begged for an interview even after they were caught lying about Hunter Biden’s laptop in 2020. There were initial discussions, but nothing was ever planned or committed. also pushed for live fact checking, which is unprecedented.”

Harris is expected to discuss a wide range of topics, including the economy, immigration and the ongoing wars in Ukraine and Israel.

The vice president previously spoke with Whitaker last year. She was also interviewed by Norah O’Donnell, host of CBS Evening News and correspondent for 60 Minutes, in 2020.
