Georgia Governor Brian Kemp declares Jimmy Carter Day

WASHINGTON – Donald Trump may once again be dissatisfied with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp – the Georgia governor honored former President Jimmy Carter for his 100th birthday.

“I have declared today ‘Jimmy Carter Day’ in the state of Georgia to recognize his legacy as our 76th Governor and 39th President,” Kemp said in a statement on the social media site wishes as he and his family celebrate this milestone.”

Trump, who has feuded with Kemp over the conduct of the 2020 election in Georgia, has attacked Carter throughout the election year and compared his presidency to that of his former opponent, President Joe Biden.

The Carter family has expressed similarly dire views about Trump.

The Carter Center on Tuesday posted a series of videos of people praising the 39th president, including successors Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton — but nothing from Trump.

In the state proclamation declaring “Jimmy Carter Day,” the former president has remained “a person of strong convictions and a committed advocate of community service.”

It added: “Of his many achievements, he is perhaps best known as a loving husband, caring humanist and an esteemed Sunday school teacher.”

Carter, who is in hospice care, spent the big day at his home in Plains, Georgia.

CBS News captured video of family and friends gathering in Carter’s backyard. At one point, the oldest president ever was wheeled out to view a military flyover.

Jason Carter, the former president’s grandson, has told reporters he wanted to live for one reason: to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris over Trump.

After Kemp announced his proclamation about President Carter, Jason Carter said on X, “Thanks @GovKemp. He always said Governor of Georgia was his favorite job!”
