A Nevada coroner has determined that former Cincinnati Reds star Pete Rose died Monday at the age of 83 due to heart disease.

Rose’s cause of death was “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease,” with diabetes mellitus a significant condition, according to a report from Clark County Coroner Melanie Rouse (according to Erin Couch of the Cincinnati researcher and Emily Sanderson of WLWT 5.)

It was determined that the manner of Rose’s death was natural.

Diabetes mellitus refers to several diseases that can cause problems with blood sugar control, according to the Mayo Clinic. Diabetes, as well as atherosclerosis and hypertension, are considered risk factors for heart problems, including heart attack or stroke, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The Clark County Medical Examiner previously told ABC News that Rose’s death would be investigated after he was found in his home by a family member. The investigator reported that there were “no signs of foul play,” according to Mark Osborne and Angeline Jane Bernabe.

The investigator also noted that Rose “was not under the care of a physician when he died,” according to Osborne and Bernabe.

During his 24-year MLB career, highlighted by 19 seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, Rose set MLB records with 4,256 career hits in 3,562 games played between 1963 and 1986.

As a player, Rose was named an All-Star 17 times and won two World Series with the Reds and one with the Philadelphia Phillies. He then managed the Reds before being banned from MLB in 1989 for violating the league’s betting policy.

The ban kept the Cincinnati native from the National Baseball Hall of Fame, but not from being honored in his hometown. Rose was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame in 2016, and in 2017 the team unveiled a statue of him in front of the Great American Ball Park.
