An emotional Francisco Lindor, holding back tears, said the Mets are “on a mission” and their wild-as-hell wild-card clincher — based on his go-ahead homer in the ninth inning after a crazy roller coaster in the eighth – simply “brings us one step closer to where we want to be.”

Of course it was much, much more than that.

Especially for a franchise that suffered tremendous humiliations in Atlanta and against the Braves — right down to Edwin Diaz’s inexcusable failure to cover first base when he blew a three-run lead in the eighth.

Brandon Nimmo called Monday afternoon’s 8-7 victory an “instant classic.” SNY announcer and noted team historian Gary Cohen called it “one of the greatest games in Mets history.”
