We should mention that Pete Rose died.

Pete Rose who has the most hits in MLB games uh during his career the hit king for many has passed away I believe at the age of 83 Pete Rose uh calls him a complicated figure I think he almost underestimated the level of fouls he had throughout his career.

Yes, he will be remembered by many as Charlie Hustle as someone who played the game hard and played the game for a long time.

Pete Rose is not someone I look upon fondly with any joy or memories based on his various misdeeds off the diamond.

That also includes the gambling scandal that he was embroiled in late in his career while he was the, I believe the player manager of the Cincinnati Reds, he may have been the manager at the time and I’m I’m just going to read a quote.

This is pretty much how I feel about that particular thing, Manfred.

This is in 2017 when Rose requested to be reinstated.

Manfred said Rose did not properly understand his unlawful conduct and the damage it had caused to the game.

Obviously, this is someone whose career and the highs and lows of his life mean something very different to a lot of different people depending on their generation, depending on who, you know, a lot of different things.

But I think the Manfred quote that you gave and that sentiment I think is clearly applicable in many ways.

The lack of mature understanding after many years of the many offenses in which he was involved is enough to, I think rightly and understandably, turn the court of public opinion against his favor for many people, especially those who have no reason to to feel. in any way, positively associated with him in the way that we, as, you know, 229 year olds, why would we really want to, you know, stand up for this person and baseball, we will forgive people who are wrong, but Rose was so ostracized that it’s pretty clear to me that he went to extremes in some way.

May those who knew and loved him find peace in the days ahead.
