Verizon says service has been “fully restored” after a major outage

Verizon says it has fully restored its network after a major outage that started earlier today.

“Verizon engineers have fully restored the current network outage affecting some customers,” the company said in a social media post Monday around 7:15 p.m. ET.

The company said service has now returned “to normal levels”, but added that if any of its customers are still experiencing issues they should try restarting their device.

“We know how many people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the company said.

The problems started around 9:30 a.m. ET on Monday, affecting everything from cellular connectivity and data to phone calls and text messages.

Verizon first acknowledged the issue in a social media post around noon, saying it was “aware of an issue impacting service for some customers,” adding: “Our technicians are involved and we are working quickly to identify and resolve the issue.”

However, no explanation has yet been given as to the cause of the outage.

According to data shared in June, Verizon has more than 114 million retail wireless connections, 94 million retail wireless postpaid connections and 20.3 million retail wireless prepaid connections, suggesting the disruption will have been widespread.

Of course, Verizon isn’t the only major cell phone company experiencing outages. AT&T customers suffered massive disruptions in February after a failed network update. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), all voice and 5G data services have become unavailable to AT&T wireless customers, affecting more than 125 million devices, blocking more than 92 million voice calls, and eliminating more than 25,000 calls to 911 call centers. prevented.
