Geno Smith’s connection to DK Metcalf changes the outlook for Seahawks vs Dolphins

One play after a horrible drive that resulted in an interception at the hands of Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet, the Seahawks offense bounced back in a big way.

After giving up a short field goal following the interception that saw the Miami Dolphins cut the lead to seven late in the first quarter, the Seahawks offense had to get back on track. Enter wide receiver DK Metcalf. On the first play of the drive, Geno sent back running back Kenny McIntosh, gestured to his left and took the snap. Geno took his drop in three steps and was perfectly comfortable in the bag for about three seconds before letting it rip.

DK Metcalf was waiting wide open – about five yards away – and caught the ball fifty yards away. He was so far downfield that he had to stop and wait for Smith’s deep ball. After grabbing the ball, Metcalf beat Miami safety Jevon Holland to cap a one-play, 71-yard touchdown drive and give Seattle a 17–3 lead as time expired in the first quarter.

It was Metcalf’s second big catch of the day, as his receiving total increased to 93 yards on two catches and one touchdown. For Smith it was another big move to add to his good start. As of this writing, Smith is 9 for 11 for 158 yards passing, with one touchdown and a one-tip interception.

Aside from the one disgusting offense that was derailed by the offensive pass interference that resulted in an interception, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb’s offense appears to be humming in this Week 3 matchup.

Still, the Seahawks defense should continue to shut down the Dolphins in the second half. The offense needs some help.
