Tyler Huntley entered the 2020 NFL Draft, the same one in which the Dolphins took Tua Tagovailoa fifth overall. When he wasn’t selected, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent on the same day the draft ended.

After spending most of his rookie season on the practice squad, Huntley joined the active roster on December 2 after starting QB Lamar Jackson went on the COVID list. He would get his first game action on December 20, late in the Ravens’ win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Highlights of Tyler Huntley

Tyler Huntley’s best game in the NFL came in 2021, when he threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more against the Green Bay Packers. He led a two-minute touchdown drive that brought the Ravens within a point, but could not connect on what would have been the preliminary two-point conversion.

Tyler Huntley Pro Bowl: How did Ravens backup QB make Pro Bowl?

Tyler Huntley has nine career starts and eight career touchdown passes. So how did he make the Pro Bowl after the 2022 season?

Huntley entered Week 13 after Lamar Jackson injured his knee and started the next four games, going 3–2, helping the Ravens clinch a playoff berth. He did fine in those games, going 75 of 112 for 658 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions while running for 137 yards and another score. In the Ravens’ playoff game at the Cincinnati Bengals, Huntley was 17 of 29 for 226 yards and two touchdowns with a pick. He also fumbled a QB sneak, leading to a 98-yard touchdown return that decided the game.

After Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen fell out of the Pro Bowl, Huntley was shockingly named his replacement. He was 48th in the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns, finishing behind QBs like Teddy Bridgewater, Bailey Zappe and Gardner Minshew, who played in fewer games. Nevertheless, Huntley represented the AFC alongside the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence and the Raiders’ Derek Carr, who replaced Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow.

Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley: Why is the new Dolphins QB named Snoop?

Yes, Tyler Huntley’s nickname is a reference to Snoop Dogg. According to a 2017 Salt Lake Tribune story, a coach at Hallandale High School started calling Huntley “Snoop” because of his resemblance to the rap icon.

Huntley certainly doesn’t seem to mind the nickname: his Twitter account is @_SNOOP1 and he sold “Snoop Huntley” merchandise through his website, snoop-huntley.com, which appears to be no longer active.
