Verizon is responding to widespread service outages

Thousands of Verizon customers in Chicago and across the country reported service outages on Monday.

In a statement on X, Verizon said it was aware of the outages and was “working quickly to identify and resolve the issue.”

According to the website Downdetector.com, more than 100,000 customers across the country have reported outages.

According to the site, there were 4,490 reports of Verizon outages in Chicago around 10:20 a.m. At 1:30 p.m., the number of reports had dropped to 836.

According to the site, half of national reports concern problems with mobile phones.

Many comments on the Downdetector.com page said their mobile phones were stuck in SOS mode, meaning the device is not connected to a mobile network but can still make emergency calls.
