Some Verizon customers are waking up this morning with their phones in SOS mode due to an outage. Service tracker Downdetector shows a huge spike starting at 10:00 AM ET, with many customers on X and Threads saying they are having trouble placing calls.

There doesn’t appear to be a culprit for the outage early this morning, but we’ve reached out to Verizon directly for comment on what’s going on. Many of the affected customers say they are unable to make outgoing phone calls, while others say they are unable to make calls because their phone is in SOS mode.
