    Defense Forces three and out

    After another turnover near Ohio State, Michigan State gets a huge third down stop. 1:48 and two timeouts remain to somehow make the offense a one-score game.

    Turnover…….

    Frustrated isn’t the right word for the Spartans right now. Against the number three ranked team in the country, Michigan State is closing in on 200 first half yards, allowing just seven points. But three empty red zone trips leave the Spartans down 10.

    The state of Ohio responds quickly

    That was fast. Ohio State answered the Spartan score in four plays, with a 75-yard touchdown drive. Jeremiah Smith got the final score, adding to his big total early on. He’s a good one.

    Touchdown MSU!

    Welcome back Jaron Glover. He scores on the first play of the drive, bringing his total to four catches and 53 yards. Chiles is now 6/6. The offense moves the ball extremely well and could be in an even better spot than trailing 10-7 with one or two fewer mistakes. Big answer.

    INT puts Spartans on edge nicely

    Wow! Jordan Turner just had a big moment. He picks up Will Howard and takes him back to the Ohio State 20. The offense needs to capitalize.

    The turnover bug strikes again

    At least it wasn’t an interception. Right? For the second time of the evening, the Spartans moved the ball well in the red zone again before Jack Velling fumbled after a long catch and run. Ohio State will take over on their own 19.

    Ohio State converts on 4th and goal

    After two close turnover calls on second and third down, Ohio State went for it on fourth down and finally put it in the end zone. Howard found Aaron Scott Jr. for a score. Ohio State now leads 10-0 early in the second quarter.

    The first quarter ends with OSU in position

    If MSU has a chance tonight, they will have to go big in the redzone. Ohio State finds itself deep in Spartan territory again as the second quarter approaches.

    Spartans ride but come back empty

    That was fun, until it wasn’t. Michigan State marched right down the field behind a big run from Nate Carter and some nice completions from Aidan Chiles. The Spartans were facing a 4th and 1 at the Ohio State 20, and Chiles was loaded with a QB sneak. It felt like an opportunity to grab momentum early, but they couldn’t capitalize on it.

    Michigan State bends but doesn’t break

    Ohio State was rolling along on their opening drive, until a 15-yard penalty drove the Buckeyes back out of the redzone and stalled the drive. Ohio State settled for three points, but the offense didn’t seem to encounter much resistance from Michigan State. Ohio State quarterback Will Howard went 7/7 on the first drive, if that continues it could be a long night for the Spartans.

    Ohio State ball, Spartans D first

    Spartan Stadium is LOUD! The defense hopes to keep it that way.

    Michigan State dives back into Big Ten play this weekend, returning home to take on an undefeated Ohio State squad ranked third in the country.

    The Spartans concluded the non-conference portion of their schedule with a loss at Boston College. With the Week 2 win at Maryland, Michigan State started conference play on the right foot. This will be Ohio State’s first Big Ten game.

    Last weekend, a big part of the story for Michigan State was injuries, especially on offense. The depleted receiver room gets a boost this week, with starting wideout Jaron Glover back in the lineup, while standout deep threat Nick Marsh is a mid-game decision. If there is any chance of an upset, the Spartans will need more healthy playmakers than they had available at Boston College.

    Michigan State will honor Mark Dantonio, the winningest football coach in program history, during Saturday night’s game. A packed crowd and charged atmosphere are expected in East Lansing.
