Purdue football blocks 2 FGs against Nebraska in the first half

WEST LAFAYETTE − It’s been 31 years since Purdue football went into halftime tied at 0-0.

Thanks to special teams, the Boilermakers were there against Nebraska on Saturday.

Nebraska finished the first half 0-for-3 on field goals, two of which were blocked.

Damarjhe Lewis blocked John Hohl’s 44-yard attempt with 9:36 left in the second quarter. The Cornhuskers marched down the field at the end of the first half, but the drive ended when Joe Anderson blocked a 32-yard punt from Hohl.

Those two plays helped offset a lackluster Purdue offense that totaled just 89 yards through the first two quarters.

The last time Purdue blocked two field goals in the same game was September 3, 2011, when Ricardo Allen and Kawann Short each had a block against Middle Tennessee State.

The last time Purdue was tied 0-0 at halftime was against Notre Dame in 1993, a game the Boilermakers ultimately lost 17-0.
