SPOT-ON GORDON SNARES SHARE FROM THE OUTSIDE AS CITY DROP POINTS AGAIN

Anthony Gordon saved a point from the penalty spot as Newcastle United held champions Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park.

Pep Guardiola’s men were without Kevin de Bruyne and the long-term absent Rodri, but looked on course for victory when Josko Gvardiol opened the scoring with a brilliant turn to finish after 35 minutes.

Newcastle, missing hitman Alexander Isak, struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half but burst into life when Gordon won, converting a penalty just in time.

The draw extends their lead at the top to two points, although they could be replaced at the top if results disappoint over the remainder of the weekend.

Newcastle is three points further in fifth place.

Man City then visit Slovan in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening, while Newcastle host Wimbledon in the League Cup.
