Did Lana Del Rey really just get married in… a swamp?

It’s official: Lana Del Rey’s love life is off to the races. A few months after her romance with alligator guide Jeremy Dufrene began — the “Born to Die” singer posted an Instagram of “her husband” in May 2024 — the pair tied the knot in an intimate ceremony earlier this week. This wedding isn’t just a rumor: Not only did the couple get a marriage license in Louisiana on September 23, but… The Daily Mail also released photos of the singer being escorted down the aisle by her father.

Everyone’s excited about the surprise (to us) wedding — and Del Rey’s ethereal bridal look — but her location can’t stop thinking about her. Because privacy is a top priority, celebrities often get married in unconventional wedding locations. But instead of opting for a private home like Kravis or a historic hotel a la Olivia Culpo, Del Rey and Dufrene chose…wait for it…a bayou in Des Allemands, Louisiana.

Located about 35 miles from New Orleans, Des Allemands is often called the “Catfish Capital of the Universe” – and for good reason. The nearby lake is stocked with “little red worms” that catfish love to eat, and many seafood lovers come to the area for the annual Louisiana Catfish Festival in June. With the exception of the lush foliage, Des Allemands is relatively simple… and well, swampy. In other words, this isn’t the most conventional place for a Grammy Award winner to say, “Yes, I do.”

That said, it seems the area has sentimental value to the newlyweds. Although Del Rey only recently confirmed her relationship, the “Summertime Sadness” singer did post a photo with Dufrene on Facebook in 2019. Who knows, the Bayou might be part of their love story. And in true wedding fashion, the outdoor area was decorated with tents and an array of tables and chairs, proving that even the most unusual of locations can be transformed into bridal decor.
