SEATTLE, September 26, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Names of American bankers Laurie Stewart, president and CEO of Sound Community Bank, as one of the most powerful women to watch in 2024.

Now celebrating its 22ndi.e birthday, American banker The Most Powerful Women in Banking™ program recognizes individuals and teams for demonstrating exceptional leadership skills, strong business performance and their commitment to driving real results for diversity, equality and inclusion in the financial services industry. As part of this program, the Most Powerful Women to Watch rankings highlight influential leaders from top banks and financial institutions.

Stewart recently celebrated his 34th anniversary with Sound Community Bank. During this period, Stewart led the organization’s conversion from a $38 million credit union to a $1 billion publicly traded commercial bank. Active in the industry, Stewart was one of fourteen bankers selected to serve on the first FDIC Community Bank Advisory Board. She is active in industry associations and has served two terms as president of the WBA and as chair of the ABA’s main government affairs committee. Stewart rose to chair the board of directors of the American Bankers Association, becoming only the third woman in nearly 150 years to serve in that role. She served two consecutive terms on the Board of Directors of the Seattle Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and is currently a member of the 12e District headquarters administration. She also chaired the board of directors of the National Arthritis Foundation and is a past president of the Woodland Park Zoo. Ms. Stewart is the current Secretary/Treasurer of the Jamestown/S’Klallam CDFI. She is the only non-tribal member of the CDFI board.
