Myrtle Beach area under tornado watch. What residents can expect from Hurricane Helene

Horry County residents will feel the effects of Hurricane Helene Friday morning as winds could produce isolated tornadoes, flooding and dangerous surf.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina, has issued a tornado warning for Aynor and Georgetown until about 8 a.m.

Horry County is under a tornado watch and the threat will continue this morning, according to NWS.

Residents can expect wind gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour and heavy rain with possible flooding.

The NWS says there will be showers and thunderstorms mainly before noon and some storms could be severe. Horry County is still under a tropical storm warning.

Nearly 4,000 Horry County residents were without power Friday morning.

Many of these were in the Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach area.
