Cowboys star released with ankle injury

play

(This story has been updated with new information.)

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The Dallas Cowboys were in the middle of a key defensive stand Thursday when their leader went down.

Linebacker Micah Parsons clutched his left ankle on a third down play with less than four minutes remaining as Dallas led the New York Giants 20-15 in their eventual victory.

Members of the Dallas training staff helped him gingerly walk off the field as he struggled to put weight on his left leg. He was later taken to the locker room with his left shoe removed.

Parsons rushed to Giants center John Michael Schmitz, who blocked him against Greg Van Roten as the right guard fell to the ground. Parsons was folded under Van Roten and immediately appeared to be in pain.

Parsons confirmed after the match that he had suffered an ankle injury, but could provide few details. He said the X-rays were negative, but added that he would undergo an MRI in Dallas on Friday.

The Cowboys next face the Pittsburgh Steelers on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 5.

Parsons had two tackles (one for loss) during the game. He left briefly in the first half with a neck injury after the referees forced him off following a heavy blow he received from his own teammate.

The two-time All-Pro chipped in with six quarterback hits and one sack through the first three games of the season.
