Where to pre-order the PS5 Pro and PlayStation’s 30th anniversary collection

We’re inching closer to a mid-cycle refresh for the PlayStation 5 as the PS5 Pro’s phased pre-order schedule begins. The $699.99 console will be available for pre-order in the US soon at 10:00am ET / 7:00am PT via Sony’s PlayStation Direct store. If you want to get your hands on one as soon as possible, your best bet is to get in line on Sony’s site (make sure you have your PlayStation Network login details handy).

Also going up for pre-orders are Sony’s retro-styled 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle ($999.99), PS5 Digital Edition slim ($499.99), PlayStation Portal ($219.99), DualSense ($79.99) and DualSense Edge ($219.99) — these prices were reported on social media, but not by Sony itself. We’ll update this article if we hear more information before the sale starts.

If you’re not lucky in the queue, you can pre-order the standard PS5 Pro starting October 10 at retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and Amazon.

The PS5 Pro’s biggest prospect is improved graphics and performance. The new console may be missing a disc drive (you can get one for an extra $80), but the new GPU, AI upscaling, and better ray tracing promise a new level of fidelity for this console generation – with the ability to maintain 4K resolution at 60fps in select titles. It might not be the most logical upgrade over a regular PS5 for everyone, but if you’re hungry for top performance on exclusive titles like Final Fantasy VII Rebirthit may be the only way to achieve this (at least until Rebirth and other exclusive games are making their way to PC).

How to pre-order the standard PlayStation 5 Pro

As mentioned above, Sony is first opening pre-orders for its $699.99 console via PlayStation Direct, which requires a PlayStation Network account. The site will add you to an online queue that will automatically refresh. If you’re one of the lucky few who makes it through the queue without a hitch, you’ll be given a window of time to pre-order the console and any accessories you want. The PS5 Pro is expected to launch on November 7, so pre-orders should open then.

The official PlayStation Store may be the first to take pre-orders, but retailers will have a chance to shut up shop and take your money on October 10. That includes major retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and Amazon. If the nightmarish PS5 restocks we saw in the early days of the pandemic are any indication, some retailers will have an organized queue, while others (cough, cough… Amazon) may feel a bit like a bot-ridden Wild West. Here’s our go-to advice when the time comes:

  • Please create an account with the retailer in advance or log in.
  • Please save your billing/shipping information so you can checkout as quickly as possible.
  • If possible, try to visit the store site from both your computer and the associated mobile app for your phone or tablet.

$700

The “pro” version of Sony’s PlayStation 5 features a larger GPU, new PSSR AI-based upscaling, advanced ray tracing, and a 2TB SSD (with expandable storage). The new features allow for better graphics at higher frame rates, allowing for the combination of “fidelity” and “performance” modes in some games.

How to pre-order the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro

Launching two weeks after the PS5 Pro is Sony’s special 30th Anniversary Collection, a limited-edition hardware capsule celebrating 30 years since the original PlayStation console’s launch. Taken as a whole, the collection offers fans the following retro-styled editions: an extra special PS5 Pro bundle, a Digital Edition PS5 slim, a PlayStation Portal, a DualSense Wireless Controller, and a DualSense Edge controller — all of which are available to pre-order via the PlayStation Direct storefront before they launch on November 21 (aww, thanks for the birthday present, Sony).

The 30th anniversary PS5 Pro bundle is the ultra-exclusive one, as Sony is only making 12,300 individually numbered sets, and the $999.99 bundle includes a PS5 Pro console, two controllers (one of which is a DualSense Edge), and additional accessories/collectibles. If the last anniversary PlayStation console is any indication, pre-orders are likely to sell out incredibly quickly.

$1000

A limited edition bundle featuring a PS5 Pro and accessories, all dressed up in classic PlayStation style. The bundle includes the console with a disc drive cover, vertical stand, DualSense controller, DualSense Edge controller, DualSense charging cradle, and assorted PlayStation-branded accessories (including a collector’s poster).

How to Pre-Order the 30th Anniversary PS5 Slim

The Digital Edition PlayStation 5 (slim) is also getting the 30th anniversary treatment, and Sony isn’t making it quite as exclusive as the Pro. Right now, you can pre-order the humbler console via PlayStation Direct for $499.99 ahead of its November 21 launch. Aside from the color of the console and controller, and the included disc drive cover, it’s the same PS5 slim we’ve had for almost a year now.

$500

The current Digital Edition of the so-called PS5 “slims” with classic PlayStation aesthetics. It also includes an alternative cover plate to accommodate the add-on disc drive.

How to Pre-Order the PlayStation Portal 30th Anniversary Edition

The PlayStation Portal remains a quirky little peripheral, considering the 8-inch handheld exists for one purpose only: streaming games from your PS5 via Remote Play, complete with full DualSense integration and features. The Portal almost looks extraneous to my eyes given Sony’s retro aesthetic, but if you were planning on buying Sony’s latest mobile experiment anyway and want a bit of nostalgia, you can pre-order the LE edition from the PlayStation Direct store now for $219.99 ahead of its November 21 release date.

$220

A limited edition of the PlayStation Portal for Remote Play console, streamable through a PS5.

How to pre-order the 30th anniversary DualSense controller

Sony’s DualSense Wireless Controller is the cheapest way to dip your toe in the nostalgic waters of the 30th anniversary collection. The limited edition DualSense and DualSense Edge gamepads offer the same features as the standard models, just with multi-tone gray paint jobs and colorful PlayStation logo/button molds. The DualSense and DualSense Edge are available for pre-order via PlayStation Direct for $79.99 and $219.99 respectively, and are expected to ship on November 21. Walmart, Best Buy, and Amazon also have listings for pre-orders of the 30th Anniversary DualSense.

$79

The 30th anniversary version of Sony’s standard DualSense controller. The gamepad has the usual haptics and adaptive triggers, except it’s equipped with a design that harks back to the original controllers from the PlayStation era.

$220

Sony’s premium controller for the PS5 in the classic PS1 era style. Unlike the standard DualSense controller, the Edge offers interchangeable sticks, two customizable rear paddle buttons and on-the-fly changeable software presets.
