Did UW-Madison’s ‘Bachelorette’ Jenn Tran, Ilona Maher and Anna Delvey Survive?

“A cheeky, shiny, naughty little kitty.”

That’s how “The Bachelorette” Jenn Tran performed on “Dancing with the Stars” Tuesday — at least according to judge Bruno Tonioli. And that was despite technical issues with the music, which Tran handled as purrrfectly as possible.

But will that be enough for Tran, a University of Wisconsin-Madison alum, and her pro partner, Sasha Farber, to survive this week’s double elimination?

The theme for week 2 was ‘Oscars Night’, which meant the duos would dance to songs from Oscar-nominated films.

“I watched the Oscars all the time, especially as a kid,” Tran told Farber on the show.

Farber revealed that they would be dancing to “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” by Fergie, Q-Tip and GoonRock from “The Great Gatsby.”

“I wish ‘The Great Gatsby’ was the way I could live my life,” Tran said. “That time in the ’20s is all about going wild and being free and that’s exactly what I want to channel.”

Tran — in a fuchsia embellished top, a flowing skirt and long gloves — and Farber — in a matching tuxedo jacket and bow tie — performed a tango.

“Jenn Tran, you are such a surprise!” said judge Carrie Ann Inaba. “There is so much good going on here. You are effervescent, you have the stature — you have it down to Tango. Although, that was a fast tango, my friend.”

Inaba asked if there was something wrong with the music during the dancing.

Despite the music not being loud enough, Farber said, Tran “crushed it.” Host Alfonso Ribeiro added that he could hear the music in his ear, but not on the dance floor. Inaba praised the couple for how they handled the snafu.

Farber later explained that at the beginning of the dance, he and Tran only heard the “click track,” but that Tran managed to “stay in time until the music started.”

“Jenn, you are a natural born performer, you are a true star on stage,” said judge Derek Hough.

While he criticized some of her arm positions and placements, he praised her cartwheel.

“I don’t know that I could do that, I’ll tell you that,” Tran said.

“I think you danced like a cheeky, shiny, mischievous little kitten tonight,” Tonioli told Tran. “You’re serious. They’re right, something happened. But don’t take away from what you accomplished. Because the parts that were good were brilliant.”

Tran and Farber received a score of 19 out of 30, with a six from Inaba, a six from Derek and a seven from Tonioli. That’s the same total as last week’s premiere night, which gave them a combined total of 38/60.
