Anna Delvey eliminated from Dancing With the Stars

(This story contains spoilers from Dancing with the stars.)

Anna Delvey’s time on Dancing with the stars has come to an end.

Convicted fraudster and fake German heiress, real name Anna Sorokin, allegedly scammed people into giving her hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, goods and services, as documented in Jessica Pressler’s New York magazine cover. Her adventures inspired the Netflix series Inventing Annawhich starred Julia Garner Delvey and Shonda Rhimes served as showrunner.

In the second episode of this season on Tuesday evening Dancing with the starsDelvey was eliminated based on the judges’ scores and viewer votes, along with Tori Spelling and her professional partner Pasha Pashkov in a double elimination.

When asked by DWTS When asked about co-host Julianne Hough’s takeaway from her experience on the show, Delvey said, laughing, “Nothing.”

Delvey and partner Ezra Sosa’s final dance in the Oscar-themed episode was a quick segue into KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See,” in which Sosa poked fun at her aloof behavior.

Delvey was released from prison in 2021 after serving four years behind bars, but was under house arrest while she fought a deportation case. The fake socialite said she had been granted permission by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“I was kind of talked into doing this. I got permission from ICE and then it was kind of too late to back out,” Delvey said. The Hollywood Reporter why she signed up for DWTS after this season’s cast was announced earlier this month.

Delvey was supposed to wear an ankle monitor during the match, but was told THR She didn’t expect it to affect her performance because it’s “pretty light.” As for her goals for the show, she said she wanted to “have some fun and maybe train a little bit.”

But Delvey’s casting, and even the permission she received from ICE to participate, were quickly met with fierce backlash.

The day after Delvey was announced as part of the DWTS cast, the co-hosts of ABC’s The view criticized the competition, which also airs on ABC, for including Delvey in the current season.

“I think back to all the families that have had family members arrested by ICE, that have gone to court to get their father, brother, mother back, and this woman, they gave her permission to do this,” moderator Whoopi Goldberg said. “Am I supposed to think there’s a reason? Is there a two-tiered system here at ICE?”

Co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin indicated that Delvey still needs to be held accountable, with Griffin saying that Delvey “still owes people money.”

Delvey was quick to respond on social media, saying the presenters needed to “get their facts straight”.

“While you are entitled to your own opinion, you should at least get your facts straight. I have served my time and paid everyone back in full, over 3 years ago. I look forward to your correction on the radio,” Delvey wrote in a response to The view‘s X (formerly Twitter) page.

Later, Delvey’s attorney released a statement to The viewthat Griffin read on the radio last week.

“We recently talked about Anna Delvey, the convicted fraudster, and she mentioned that she was going to be on Dancing With the Stars and questioned whether it was fair for her to be on the show because it’s an opportunity that most other convicted criminals and immigrants seeking asylum simply don’t get,” Griffin said. “After that conversation, we heard from Ms. Delvey’s attorney, who vehemently objected to us saying, quote, ‘She still owes people money.’ He claimed that that statement falsely suggests that she still owes restitution to her fraud victims. And he provided a document from the Office of Victim Services that he claims proves, quote, ‘All of Ms. Delvey’s restitution has been paid in full and all of her victims have been fully compensated,’ end of quote.”
