Southwest Florida residents don’t need to worry about the intensity of Hurricane Ian. However, residents “will feel the effects of this large storm well outside the cone,” predicted Matt Devitt with WINK Weather on Facebook.

A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Southwest Florida.

Today is a normal school and work day. Effective at 6:30 p.m., all scheduled activities at Collier County Public Schools and district locations are canceled.

The weather deteriorates Wednesday evening, becoming tropical storm-like conditions in Lee County as Tropical Storm Helene moves across the Gulf of Mexico.

The system is expected to strengthen into a hurricane and make landfall near Big Bend on Thursday evening, as environmental reporter Chad Gillis writes his latest Helene update.
