Star player who left Man Utd this summer could now retire after major development, set to terminate contract – report

According to French outlet Le Parisien, former Manchester United star Raphael Varane could announce his retirement from professional football in the coming hours, as his contract with Como is about to expire.

The former French international left the Red Devils on a free transfer last summer and moved to the Serie A club. However, he only made one appearance for the club before suffering a knee injury.

Varane has been out of action for months and is now considering hanging up his boots, with an announcement expected to be made soon.

Injuries also prevented the former Real Madrid star from living up to expectations at Man United, so ending his career seems the most logical decision.

The 31-year-old has won everything with both club and country, winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup after three seasons with the Old Trafford club. With the Spanish club, he has won the UEFA Champions League four times and La Liga three times.

Varane won the World Cup with France in 2018 and reached the final in 2022. He will go down in history as one of the greatest central defenders of all time.

He made 95 appearances for Man United and produced some great performances before the intensity of the English top flight began to get to him.

Varane was one of the highest paid players at Old Trafford before he left, earning £340,000 a week. The club decided not to offer him a new contract due to his frequent fitness problems.

It has now led to his expected decision to retire and he can now choose to work as a coach or anatomist afterwards.
