The Cincinnati Bengals’ 2024 season got off to a disastrous start, losing 0-3 to the Washington Commanders on Monday night. They were dealt another blow on Tuesday.

Bengals offensive tackle Trent Brown, who was stretchered off the field Monday night with a knee injury, will undergo surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Rapoport added that Brown is “expected to make a full recovery.”

Brown suffered the injury in the second quarter of the game against the Commanders. After losing their starting right tackle, the Bengals fell 38-33 to a Washington team led by a rookie quarterback in Jayden Daniels.

When asked about Brown’s status after the game, Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor said, “It doesn’t look good,” according to ESPN’s Ben Baby.

Brown, a 10-year veteran, signed a one-year deal with the Bengals last offseason after spending the previous three years with the New England Patriots. He was a member of New England’s Super Bowl LIII-winning team and earned his lone Pro Bowl selection in 2019 while playing for the Las Vegas Raiders.

After Brown left Monday’s game, the Bengals replaced him with 2024 No. 18 pick Amarius Mims . It was the Georgia product’s NFL debut after missing the first two games of the season with a pectoral injury he suffered in Cincinnati’s season opener. Baby noted that Mims was in line to be the team’s starting right tackle before his injury.

The Bengals will be hoping their recent run of bad luck ends soon. Cincinnati entered the year with the ambition of representing the AFC in the Super Bowl, so the team will need to get back on track quickly to avoid another losing year.

The Bengals visit the Carolina Panthers on Sunday as they look to get their first win of the season.
