Deshaun Watson explains how the Giants’ defense surprised the Browns in their 21-15 upset

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Deshaun Watson credited the Giants for giving the Browns a defensive opportunity he said they weren’t prepared for in their 21-15 upset on Sunday.

“They changed the game plan,” Watson said after the game. “You have to give their DC Shane (Bowen) a lot of credit for doing something different than we did… obviously we expected pressure, but as much as they brought it, you just have to prepare for the worst.

“And they did a good job of trying to create some mismatches and some confusions up front to throw us off our timing in the passing game. So to correct that, we’ve got to win our matchups and try to find the right protection to figure out what pressure they’re putting off the edge to create and, yeah.”

The Giants tackled Watson a personal best eight times and hit him 17 times, even out-tacking him in their first two games.

They attacked the edges, with the Browns giving Jed Wills Jr. his first start at left tackle since tearing his MCL on Nov. 5 of last year and Dawand Jones struggling at right tackle with a sore knee, which he also had his MCL repaired on in December.
