4 Stats Show How Badly Cleveland Browns’ Deshaun Watson Has Played

Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns suffered another disappointing loss in Week 3. Despite having a tremendous opportunity against a struggling New York Giants team, the Browns ultimately lost by a final score of 21-15.

Once again, the offense struggled mightily. Watson didn’t play great, although the offensive line did him absolutely no favors.

Watson completed 21 of his 37 pass attempts for 196 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. It was definitely his best game of the season, but there were plenty of concerns to take away from the game.

Now, as shared by Benjamin Solak of ESPNThere are four extremely worrying statistics to note about Watson at the start of the season.

He said that while Watson leads the league in total dropbacks, he ranks dead last in total QBR, yards per attempt plus yards per dropback, passing percentage and explosive play percentage.

It’s clear those numbers aren’t going to get the job done. Watson needs to find a way to turn his season around and he needs to do it fast.

The calls for Cleveland to replace Watson have already grown louder, with some even calling for him to be benched midseason in favor of Jameis Winston.

That doesn’t seem like a likely option at this point, but the Browns could certainly go quarterback shopping this offseason. Depending on how the rest of the season goes, they could be in good draft position to go after a quarterback.

That said, this was a very disappointing start to the 2024 campaign. Cleveland was expected to be a competitive football team and Watson had a lot of hype surrounding a potential bounce-back year.

There is no sign of that at the moment and there is no reason to expect that we will see it. The team as a whole is disappointing and there are not many bright spots to take confidence from.

Hopefully, the team can come out strong in Week 4 when they visit the Las Vegas Raiders. If they can’t, the outside noise will be even louder and the Browns will be under even more pressure to make some changes.
