Dallas Cowboys vs. Baltimore Ravens: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Week 3

Thanks to a late fourth-quarter surge, the Dallas Cowboys avoided another embarrassing loss in back-to-back weeks. They fought back into the game by scoring three late touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but lost 28-25 in Week 3 to the Baltimore Ravens.

For most of the game, the Cowboys looked out of sync and lackluster, both offensively and defensively. While they showed signs of life on the offensive side of the ball late in the game, they still looked undisciplined and outclassed defensively. If we learned anything, though, it’s that there’s still plenty of room for improvement on every front.

Today we’re going to look at what else was good to take away from this Week 3 matchup with the Ravens, as well as some bad and ugly. Unfortunately, the bad and ugly dominated this week, just like last week against the New Orleans Saints.

THE GOOD – Brandon Aubrey

It’s starting to sound like a broken record, but Brandon Aubrey is without a doubt the one consistently good thing we took away from the Cowboys’ Week 3 game against the Ravens. He made two more kicks of 50+ yards (65, 51) and also helped convert an onside kick that helped the Cowboys fight back into the game. While we all love seeing him consistently split the posts from just about any distance, we can all agree that we’d probably rather see him shoot more extra points after touchdowns.

THE BAD – Dak Prescott and Company by three quarters

The Dak Prescott-led Cowboys offense couldn’t get anything going on the ground or through the air for the first three quarters of the game, but finally showed signs of life in the fourth quarter. It was almost as if the switch had finally been flipped for the Cowboys offense in the fourth quarter. They played with an energy that we haven’t seen from them this year and as a result, they fought their way back into the game by scoring three quick touchdowns. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, but hopefully they can build on that.

THE UGLY – Defense. Defense. Defense.

The Cowboys defense was once again their Achilles heel against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. Baltimore’s offense had 456 total yards, 238 of which came from QB Lamar Jackson and RB Derrick Henry on the ground. We knew this QB/RB duo would be a problem for the Cowboys run defense going into this game, and it proved to be. Unfortunately, it’s hard to believe that Dallas’ run defense can improve much going forward unless some major personnel changes are made.
