Carson Steele’s first NFL start for Chiefs includes missing her sister’s wedding

Carson Steele made his first NFL start on Sunday against the Falcons, but it wasn’t the only big family moment for the Steele family.

While the Chiefs running back was on the field, his older sister Kesslar was getting married in Indiana.

In a bizarre twist of fate, Steele made his first NFL start on the day his older sister got married, and the wedding reception turned into a huge viewing party.

Although the Steele brothers weren’t at each other’s big day, they were clearly there in spirit. Kesslar even sent a video to NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” broadcast of wedding reception guests tuning in for the running back’s big moment.

“Kesslar and her now-husband Jack just sent us this video of their wedding reception happening right now, with Carson making his first-ever NFL start,” NBC’s Melissa Stark reported. “It wasn’t great timing. Today was the only day the venue was available. His sister sent a save the date over a year ago, and Carson was supposed to be the groomsman. But luckily they have the big screen, he’s there in spirit.”

To complete the special day for the Steele family, the Chiefs defeated the Falcons 22-17, with the running back finishing with 17 carries for 72 yards.

The Chiefs’ appearance on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” meant another cameo from Steele’s pet alligator Crocky J.

The NBC broadcast showed a photo of Crocky-J wearing a white Chiefs cap.

The alligator became known to football fans during the Week 1 opener between the Ravens and Chiefs.

In an interview with the Indianapolis Star, Kesslar told the outlet that watching Crocky-J was a task “I always get.”

“It’s pretty easy,” Kesslar said. “He’s a pretty tame alligator. I probably don’t get to spend as much time with him as Carson does. But I don’t mind taking care of him.”
