Giants’ Malik Nabers dominates first half against Browns with two TDs

It appears the Giants have a goalie on their hands in Malik Nabers.

The rookie wide receiver, selected sixth overall by the Giants in this year’s draft, led the team to six catches, 66 yards and two touchdowns in the first half as they led the Browns 21-7 into halftime in Cleveland looking for their first win of the year.

His performance and that of Daniel Jones helped make up for the disastrous first 11 seconds of the game, when Eric Gray botched the kickoff and the Browns scored on their first offensive attack.

Jones finished the half completing 17 of 19 passes for 178 yards, two touchdowns and zero turnovers, although he did see an interception called due to a roughing the passer penalty by the Browns.

After a rushing touchdown by Devin Singletary tied the first quarter, Nabers made a jumping catch in the back-left corner of the end zone. He barely managed to get both feet on the ground before slamming his hand out of bounds for his first score of the game. It gave the Giants a 14-7 lead with 1:44 left in the second quarter.

During that drive, Nabers made an impressive catch, taking the ball from Browns corner Martin Emerson Jr.

Brian Burns then made a strip sack that Elijah Chatman picked up, giving the Giants the ball back at the Browns’ 30-yard line just before halftime. This was Burns’ first sack as a Giant.

Four plays later, Jones found Nabers again with 11 seconds left on the clock to take a 21-7 lead.
