NFL teams call Panthers about Bryce Young trade after benching

According to ESPN, Bryce Young was benched by the Panthers this week, but several teams have already expressed interest in trading for the first pick in the 2023 draft.

Panthers coach Dave Canales has said the team has no intention of trading the 23-year-old Young, who will be replaced by veteran quarterback Andy Dalton in Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

But the Panthers “have been approached by certain teams,” while others “have considered a Young trade within their own organizations,” ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported.

He added that league sources believe it’s “only a matter of time” before Carolina “completes a deal with the quarterback in his second year,” though that will most likely happen “sometime this offseason.”

Young has a 2-16 record as a starter since the Panthers traded with the Bears last year to select him with the first overall pick out of Alabama.

One pick later, the Texans acquired quarterback CJ Stroud, who won the 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Young has thrown more interceptions (13) than touchdowns (11) in his professional career while completing just 59 percent of his passes.

Through two games this season, the Panthers have totaled 245 passing yards, the fewest in the league.

Several high-draft quarterbacks have been traded for modest returns in recent seasons, including Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Trey Lance and Zach Wilson.
