New River CTC and Marshall Collaborate on Affiliate Agreement

BEAVER, WV (WVNS) – New River Community and Technical College has partnered with Marshall University to provide more opportunities for students.

Students and prospective students at New River Community and Technical College now have the opportunity to further expand their education.

The new bachelor’s degree program not only helps transfer credits to Marshall, but also reduces the stress of credits not being accepted.

Marshall President Brad Smith said he is very excited about the partnership and hopes it will benefit the schools and West Virginia as a whole.

“We knew there was still friction that was holding students back, that they wanted to continue that education. Thanks to President Copenhaver, who reached out and said, ‘Let’s eliminate that friction,’ and we embraced the opportunity. Here we are today,” Smith said.

New River CTC President Dr. Bonny Copenhaver said this collaboration has been in the making for a long time.

Students in certain programs can begin their 4-year degree at Marshall immediately.

“This is such a win for our students here. But the ones we have now, the ones that have graduated this way in the past and the ones that are moving on,” Dr. Copenhaver said.

Dr. Copenhaver says that in the future, students should be able to transfer their credits to further education and the future without any problems.
