Severe Thunderstorm Warning Until 10 PM, Including the Twin Cities Area

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. for much of eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin and northern Iowa. The warning zone includes the Greater Twin Cities area.

Storms with large hail and damaging winds are possible in the warning area. A tornado cannot be ruled out. The most likely window for storms in the Twin Cities is between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. from west to east.

Be prepared for possible warnings in your area.

210 PM CDT Thu 19 Sep 2024 The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a *Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Northern Iowa Southern and East-Central Minnesota Western Wisconsin

*Valid this Thursday afternoon and evening from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM CDT.

* Major threats include… Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail up to 2.5 inches in diameter possible Scattered damaging winds up to 70 mph possible A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY… Thunderstorms should continue to develop this afternoon, posing a threat of large hail up to 1.5-2.5 inches in diameter. As this activity spreads east-northeastward, damaging winds in the 60-70 mph range could pose a greater threat tonight, especially if thunderstorms are able to form in clusters. A tornado or two also appears possible with a persistent, surface-based supercell. The Severe Thunderstorm Warning Area is approximately along and 75 miles east and west of a line from 45 miles northwest of Eau Claire WI to 15 miles southwest of Mason City IA.
