New York Magazine suspended reporter Olivia Nuzzi on Thursday night after an internal investigation revealed she had a “personal relationship” with a key figure in the 2024 presidential race, reportedly former candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

“Nuzzi has acknowledged to the magazine’s editors that she had a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while covering the campaign, in violation of the magazine’s standards regarding conflicts of interest and disclosure,” New York magazine said in a statement.

Nuzzi, the magazine’s Washington correspondent, has done several high-profile interviews during her presidential campaign coverage, including Kennedy, whom she covered in a story late last year.

Nuzzi released a statement Thursday night saying she never had a physical relationship with her former reporter but did have “personal” communications with them. She did not mention Kennedy by name.

“Earlier this year, the nature of communications between me and a former reporter became personal,” she said. “I did not report on the topic directly, nor did I use them as a source. The relationship was never physical, but should have been made public to avoid the appearance of a conflict. I deeply regret not doing so immediately, and I apologize to those I let down, especially my colleagues in New York.”

A spokesman for Kennedy also denied any physical relationship and said he had met Nuzzi only once.

“Mr. Kennedy met Olivia Nuzzi only once in his life for an interview she requested, which resulted in a damning article,” a Kennedy spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

The magazine said in a statement that Nuzzi would have been removed from her campaign reporting duties if it had been made aware of the relationship.

“If the magazine had known about this relationship, she would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign. An internal review of her published work found no inaccuracies or evidence of bias,” New York magazine said.

“She is currently on leave from the magazine and the magazine is conducting a more thorough third-party investigation,” the statement continued. “We regret this breach of our readers’ trust.”

Status, a recently launched media blog, reported that the person she was reportedly dating was Kennedy, who is married to actress Cheryl Hines. Kennedy suspended his campaign last month and endorsed former President Trump.

“She did not proactively disclose her alleged relationship with Kennedy to New York Magazine, and the magazine only recently learned of it, according to people familiar with the matter. The alleged relationship began after a November 2023 profile she wrote about Kennedy was published, a person close to Nuzzi said. The person close to Nuzzi added that she did not use Kennedy as a source during her coverage of the 2024 campaign,” Status reported.

Nuzzi did not respond to a request for additional comment.

New York magazine declined to comment further on questions about the Kennedy report.

Nuzzi recently made headlines when Bloomberg reportedly pulled the promotion of her six-part interview series called “Working Capital” after left-wing criticism mounted over a scathing report she wrote about President Biden.

The story about Biden before he dropped out of the 2024 race delved deeper into his mental decline and the “conspiracy of silence” around him to keep it from becoming public knowledge. Biden dropped out of the race shortly after Nuzzi’s report was released, and pressure from the Democratic Party on the president mounted.

Earlier this month, she wrote a profile of Trump, following the attempted assassination of him in July.
