Aaron Rodgers Believes the Jets Are Just Getting Started

After splitting a pair of road games to start the season, Aaron Rodgers believes the Jets offense needs to do a lot more from the get-go. Plagued by early inefficiencies against the 49ers and Titans in Weeks 1 and 2, Rodgers brought out his whip as the Green & White approached their Week 3 Thursday night matchup against the Patriots.

“It doesn’t really matter how close we are,” he said Tuesday. “What matters is what we did on the field. How close we are is great for coaches because they can coach the whole thing, but it would be a shame to keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. We have to change a few things; we have to be a little sharper. We have to start quicker. We started really slow the first two weeks, so we have to start quicker, get something going in the first 15 and give our defense a chance to lead the way.”

In their loss to the 49ers, the Jets had 3 threes-and-outs in the first half, along with a turnover in their own zone on 5 possessions. Then in their win over the Titans, the Jets had 2 threes-and-outs and 3 straight punts to start the game. The Jets trailed at halftime in both games after being limited to a TD in each.

Rodgers has led the Jets to 6 offensive TDs. New York has 3-plus offensive TDs in its first two games for the first time since 2004. He has 3 TD passes despite being limited to 38 plays in the blowout loss to the 49ers when the Green & White had 49 total plays. In the 24-17 win over the Titans, the offense had a slight uptick to 56 plays.

“We’ve got to get our plays up into the mid-60s, into the 70s, and then you’ve got more opportunities to throw the ball,” Rodgers said. “The more opportunities, the more chances on the field, more yards, more points.”
