Fever vs. Mystics Updates: Caitlin Clark Still In, Likely Last Seen by Kelsey Mitchell

The Indiana Fever close out the regular season in the nation’s capital against the Washington Mystics. The Fever (20-19), looking to hit at least .500 for the first time since their last postseason appearance in 2016, are locked in as the No. 6 WNBA playoff seed (more on that here).

Record-setting Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell are nearly tied for the season in scoring, and they both shined (Clark had 35, Mitchell 30) in Indiana’s thrilling home finale, a 110-109 win over the Dallas Wings. Mitchell is averaging 19.6 points on 40.2% 3-point shooting, while Clark is averaging 19.5 on 34.1% shooting from 3s. Aliyah Boston added 14.1 points and 9.0 rebounds, with NaLyssa Smith adding 10.4 points and 7.2 rebounds.

The Mystics (13-26) — who are battling the Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream for the final playoff spot — are led by Ariel Atkins (14.7 points, 1.5 steals), Brittney Sykes (12.5 points), Stefanie Dolson (9.9 points, 47.7% on 3s, 5.1 rebounds), Aaliyah Edwards (7.6 points, 5.6 rebounds) and Julie Vanloo (7.5 points, 4.4 assists).

The Fever have a 2-1 record against the Mystics this season, with all games played before the Olympic break.

Would you believe Indiana led 18-2 at one point? Washington is playing for its playoff life, while the Fever are locked into the No. 6 seed with nothing left to play for going into tonight’s regular-season finale.

IndyStar Insider Chloe Peterson thinks we’ve seen the last of Kelsey Mitchell tonight, but Chloe believes it’s just a precautionary measure ahead of the playoffs.

Caitlin Clark has 8 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. NaLyssa Smith leads the Fever with 11 points. Aliyah Boston has 8 points on 3-of-4 shooting.

With Mitchell on the bench, we’ll see more of Kristy Wallace. Who knows? Maybe we’ll even get a Grace Berger sighting.

Kelsey Mitchell injured? It doesn’t look too serious

The momentum has shifted completely to the Mystics. Again, nothing is at stake for Fever, so maybe we’ll see some of that in this swing.

Caitlin Clark is back in the game (6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists).

Fever 24, Mystics 22, end of 1st quarter

The Mystics closed the quarter on a 20-4 run after trailing 18-2. Indiana was boiling, but the Mystics woke up.

NaLyssa Smith leads the Fever with eight points. Caitlin Clark has six points, four rebounds and two assists.

The Fever are firmly in sixth place, so we may not see many starters tonight.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Mitchell doesn’t participate in the race, if only as a precaution.

Fever at the beginning, lead 20-7, 4:12 1Q

So much for letting off the gas pedal in the final game of the regular season. Indiana raced to an 18-2 lead with 5:02 left in the first quarter.

Caitlin Clark has two 3-pointers (six points) and NaLyssa Smith is perfect 3-of-3 from the field with eight points.
