NCAA Division 2 Volleyball Rankings Week 1

The opening week of volleyball in the second division caused a lot of movement in the polls, with some shocking results and incredible surprises.

Defending national champions Cal State LA drop to No. 11 after a poor start to the season at 2-2. Regis drops from No. 13 to No. 24 after starting the season 1-3. Likewise, previously ranked No. 14 Lewis drops to No. 23 after starting the season 2-2.

Meanwhile, teams like Cal Poly Pomona and Ferris State are surprising by starting the season 4-0 and 3-0, respectively. They have risen to 10th and 12th in the polls, up from 21st and 18th at the start of the season.

The first, Cal Poly Pomona, actually received five first place votes as they really had a hot and dominant start to the season, beating three ranked teams and dropping only two sets in their four wins. They’re not the only ones to surprise, as many teams start the season on a high note.
