According to bookmakers, Shohei Ohtani will become the first 50-50 player in MLB history.

With just a few weeks left in the 2024 season, Ohtani is -350 at FanDuel Sportsbook and has 50 home runs and 50 steals, something no player has accomplished in a single season.

Entering Wednesday’s game, Ohtani has 48 home runs and 48 swipes, and he has 11 more games to hit two of each to reach the milestone.

He is just the sixth player to make the 40-40 club, joining Ronald Acuna Jr., who was on a 40-40 team last year, Alfonso Soriano, Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds and Jose Canseco.

Only recently has it been assumed that Ohtani will reach the 50-50 mark.

In the first three months, Ohtani only had 16 bags stolen, while 50 bags seems out of the question.

He started running a lot more as the calendar turned to July, stealing 12 that month and another 15 in August.

Coming into the season, Ohtani had never stolen more than 26 bases in a single season.

It was also not a given that he would hit 50 home runs this season.

In August, he dropped 14 bombs, after dropping only six in July, putting him on track to cross the border.

His 48 home runs are also a personal record.

Ohtani’s skills at bat and on the bases put him in pole position to win his third career MVP award and his first as a designated hitter alone.

The Dodgers star is currently at -10,000 to win the prize at BetMGM Sportsbook.

Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (+1100) is the only other player in the National League with odds better than 100/1.
