Champions League: Kane scores four, Bayern scores nine against Dinamo Zagreb | Champions League

Harry Kane scored four goals, including three penalties, to lead Bayern Munich to a 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday.

In a match that set a record for the most goals in a Champions League match, Bayern scored three times in the first half with Kane – who also scored a hat-trick in their Bundesliga win over Holstein Kiel on Saturday – converting a penalty in the 19th minute. Raphaël Guerreiro then fired home from a superb assist from Jamal Musiala in the 33rd minute and Michael Olise added another five minutes later.

Vincent Kompany’s team looked to be in complete control, but the visitors fought back by scoring twice in the space of two minutes just after the break, with Bruno Petkovic and Takuya Ogiwara on target. Bayern responded with two of their own in the space of four minutes – Kane and Olise both adding their second – to put the Croatians firmly in their place.

Despite leading 5-2, Bayern kept pushing and Kane scored two more goals from the penalty spot in the 73rd and 78th minutes. The former Tottenham striker now has 33 Champions League goals to his name, surpassing Wayne Rooney as England’s top scorer in the competition.

Leroy Sané added another in the 85th before fellow substitute Leon Goretzka headed in their record-breaking ninth goal in injury time. Bayern are the first team to score nine goals in a Champions League match, with a total of 11 goals only bettered by Borussia Dortmund’s 8-4 win over Legia Warsaw in 2016.

Earlier, Juventus to beat PSV Eindhoven 3-1 on the return to the Champions League, with Kenan Yildiz making history with the first goal in the new ‘competition phase’.

The teenage Turkish winger gave Juve the lead on 21 minutes with a stunning curling shot from just inside the penalty area, leaving PSV goalkeeper Joël Drommel helpless as the ball deflected off the inside of the post. Yildiz, who is 19, also surpassed Alessandro Del Piero as Juventus’ youngest ever Champions League scorer.

Weston McKennie doubled the home side’s lead six minutes later, scoring inside the right post from close range to give Juve the lead. Nicolás González sealed the win after the break, tapping in a pass from Dusan Vlahovic, before Ismael Saibari pulled a goal back for PSV in injury time.

Juventus have returned to Europe’s elite club competition after a year-long absence. They missed out last season for the first time since 2011-12 after being deducted points in a case involving the club’s transfer deals, and were subsequently banned from all European competitions for breaching UEFA club licensing and FFP rules.

Two minutes later, Gomes was given a second yellow card for bringing down Gyökeres, after having already been given a yellow card for pushing Francisco Trinçao. In the second half, Zeno Debast unleashed a magnificent long-range shot into the top right corner to secure victory for Rúben Amorim’s side.
