Texas is the new number 1

Texas is the No. 1 team in the AP Poll for the first time since October 2008. T.I. and Brittney Spears topped the charts the last time Texas was ranked the best in college football. In 2024, the Longhorns are living life the way the Atlanta rapper did in 2008, getting off to an undefeated 3-0 start that included a top-10 win over visitors two weeks ago.

Texas cruises past Georgia, which beat an unranked Kentucky team by just one point on its visit. Meanwhile, the Texas offense does what it wants to opponents — just like TI’s No. 1 team did in 2008 — regardless of whether Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning gets snaps at quarterback.

Utah, Kansas State and Oklahoma State lead the Big 12

There’s a hodgepodge of Big 12 teams just below the top 10 of the AP Poll. Kansas State climbed to No. 13 after beating then-No. 20 Arizona. Oklahoma State fell behind the Wildcats to No. 14, while No. 12 Utah held steady

This week we’ll see Utah visit Oklahoma State to help clear up the Big 12 picture, and Kansas State host the Cowboys the following week. The battle for the Big 12 title is shaping up to be a very exciting one.

Illinois and Texas A&M are the new participants of the week

Only two top-25 teams lost in Week 3, with Arizona and Boston College losing to ranked opponents. Those two teams fell out of the rankings and were replaced by No. 24 Illinois and No. 25 Texas A&M.

Illinois is 3-0 with a ranked win under its belt. The Fighting Illini defeated a ranked Kansas team two weeks ago and recently beat Central Michigan to remain undefeated.

Texas A&M dominated Florida with its backup quarterback to lead the Aggies back into the rankings after starting the preseason at No. 20 and then spending two weeks unranked.
