    Earlier, a Ukrainian Foreign Legion official described the suspected shooter Ryan Wesley Routh approaches to it as “delusions”.

    A spokesman for the Ukrainian International Legion of Foreign Volunteers confirmed to Reuters that it has no formal ties to Routh. They said: “We would like to clarify that Ryan Wesley Routh has never been part of, associated with or linked to the International Legion in any capacity. Any claims or suggestions to the contrary are completely false.”

    Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov has suggested that what appears to be an assassination attempt on Donald Trump by an outspoken supporter of the Ukrainian cause shows that “playing with fire has consequences”.

    Asked what he thought of the events on Sunday afternoon, Peskov said: “It is not us who should think, it is the American intelligence services who should think. In any case, playing with fire has its consequences.”

    The arrested suspect, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, had been visiting Ukraine since the beginning of the war to recruit support from the West.

    Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier he was glad Trump remained “safe and unharmed.”

    In February 2022, Putin’s Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine after unilaterally annexing Crimea in 2014. The move was widely viewed as illegal by the international community.

    In case you missed it, here is a video of the press conference given by the Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said a man was arrested after attempting to assassinate Donald Trump at his Florida golf course. Bradshaw said a man was found about a quarter to a half mile away from Trump, hiding in brush — while the former president was playing golf on a nearby hole — and had an AK-style rifle with a scope, two backpacks hanging from a fence and a GoPro camera.

    The suspect has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh58 years old, a source with direct knowledge of the investigation told the Guardian. The same name was reported by other US media, including the Associated Press, Fox News and CNN. Law enforcement officials have not officially named a suspect or given any immediate indication of a motive.

I am relieved that the former President is unharmed. As I have said many times, there is no place for political violence or any violence in our country.”
