Winning ugly was a theme for both the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots in Week 1. After a disjointed start, the Seahawks rallied in the second half to defeat rookie quarterback Bo Nix and the rebuilding Broncos at home. New England surprised the league with a remarkable road win over Cincinnati. With both teams 1-0 entering the regular season, Seattle is the favorite to win by a few points when they visit the Patriots.

Running back health is a key for Seattle. Kenneth Walker III’s second-half output led the Seahawks’ comeback win over Denver. After running for 84 of his 103 yards in the second half and scoring a crucial touchdown, Walker left the field in the fourth quarter and did not return with a muscle issue in his abdomen. He was ruled out for Week 2 on Sunday.

With Walker out, Seattle’s offense is changing. Backup Zach Charbonnet can fill in for Walker. Limiting turnovers and mistakes is vital for quarterback Geno Smith. Seattle looked sluggish in Week 1, thanks in part to Smith throwing a pick and the offense taking two safeties. Failures can’t happen against a New England team that preaches ball control, time of possession and winning the turnover battle.

The Patriots pulled out a win in the debut of head coach Jerod Mayo. New England did its damage running the ball, while quarterback Jacoby Brissett was an effective game manager. Rhamondre Stevenson led the Patriots’ runners with 120 yards and a touchdown, while the offensive line outpaced Cincinnati’s front line.

Cornerback Christian Gonzalez draped Bengals star wideout Ja’Marr Chase and helped the Patriots defense stifle the Bengals. Gonzalez covered DK Metcalf and pressured Seattle to spread the ball around on offense — especially when Walker isn’t healthy.
