UFC president Dana White announced during an interview with Complex Sports on Saturday that UFC heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones will face Stipe Miocic on November 16 at UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Jones and Miocic will headline an exciting bill that includes a lightweight bout between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira, which was announced on Friday.

Jones and Miocic were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 295 in November 2023, but the fight had to be postponed after Jones suffered a torn pectoral muscle in training.

The 37-year-old Jones is one of the most dominant fighters in MMA history, with a career record of 27-1 and one no-contest.

He dominated the UFC’s light heavyweight division, winning the title twice and successfully defending it 11 times from 2011 to 2020. However, he sought a new challenge and wanted to move up to heavyweight.

Last year, Jones competed at UFC 285, his first fight after a three-year hiatus, where he defeated Ciryl Gane to win the vacant UFC heavyweight title.

Now that Jones is back, Miocic announced that he plans to return to the Octagon, having last fought at UFC 260 in 2021.

The 42-year-old Miocic is arguably the best heavyweight fighter in UFC history, with a 20-4 record and 15 knockouts. He has won the UFC heavyweight title twice.

Miocic defeated big names like Alistair Overeem, Francis Ngannou and Daniel Cormier, although he was knocked out in the second round by Ngannou in his last fight.

Considering their standing in UFC history, Jones vs. Miocic is a dream fight. The outcome could either cement Jones’ status as the greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time or erase any doubt that Miocic is the king of the heavyweight division.

During Jones’ recent absence, Tom Aspinall defeated Sergei Pavlovich for the interim UFC heavyweight title and successfully defended it against Curtis Blaydes.

White indicated that he is confident that if Jones beats Miocic in November, it will lead to a big fight between Jones and Aspinall.

To get to that point, however, Jones will have to face a UFC legend in Miocic. He is one of the few fighters who can match him in terms of height and size: they are both 6’3” tall and have a reach of over 80 inches.
