    Braelon Allen reacts to Ryan Williams’ age in Wisconsin-Alabama game

    “He’s only 17!”

    That was often the line during Braelon Allen’s first season at Wisconsin in 2021, when the announcers would have to wait until each game to realize how old he was. In 2024, that line will be reserved for another star in college football.

    After Williams scored Alabama’s first touchdown against Wisconsin on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium, the Fox broadcast discussed how he’s only 17 years old and has been reclassified in high school. Williams was a two-time Mr. Football at Saraland High School in Alabama.

    The game broadcast often told the same story about Allen, who also attended Fond du Lac High School and enrolled at the University of Wisconsin in 2021 at age 17.

    Allen, a 2024 NFL draft pick by the New York Jets, had his sights set on Saturday’s Wisconsin-Alabama game and it wasn’t lost on him that Williams’ age was being talked about as much as his age when he played in Madison.

    “I get what you guys were saying about the 17 year old thing now…” Allen tweeted in the first half.

    Allen still can’t let go of the subject of age.

    At 20, he is the youngest player in the NFL and during Monday’s Week 1 game against the Jets, he made history as the youngest player to gain a yard in a game during the Super Bowl era.

    Allen had one carry for 8 yards on the Jets’ final drive of their 32-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He also had a catch for 9 yards.

    College football fans will know all about Williams this season. He was the SEC Freshman Player of the Week in the team’s 63-0 win over Western Kentucky in the season-opener.

    And Williams shows his immense talent against Wisconsin.

    Williams beat his Wisconsin defender for a 31-yard touchdown on Saturday to give the Crimson Tide the lead early in the first quarter.

    Williams then caught a 47-yard pass from quarterback Jalen Milroe on the first play of the Crimson Tide’s two-play TD drive just before halftime, extending their lead to 21-3.

    At halftime, Williams had four receptions for 78 yards and the touchdown.
