MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was forced to leave Saturday’s game against No. 4 Alabama due to a right knee/leg injury sustained on a run during the opening drive.

Van Dyke, a transfer from Miami, was running 5 yards down the Wisconsin sideline when his right knee appeared to buckle. The senior wasn’t putting any weight on his leg as he entered Wisconsin’s injury tent and was then wheeled to the locker room, visibly upset and with his head in his hands. He was later ruled out of the game before returning to the sideline in street clothes and on crutches, his right leg in a brace.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Van Dyke suffered a rare right knee injury last year against North Carolina but returned later in the season for Miami. The 2021 ACC Rookie of the Year missed parts of six games with an injury at Miami in 2022. Van Dyke had 406 passing yards with a touchdown and no interceptions on a 60.3% completion rate in his first two starts at Wisconsin, and he completed his first five pass attempts for 16 yards against Alabama.

Reserve player Braedyn Locke, who played with Van Dyke during training camp, came on to lead the attack.
